“Cross my Mind” - Zen Chic’s contribution to Blockheads 4 (Block 9)

Zen Chic’s contribution to Moda’s Blockheads 4 - Cross my Mind

This year, it is buzzing with all kinds of projects here at Zen Chic Headquarters. We had to make some decisions and that’s why we chose to only post our contribution to Moda’s Blockheads 4 and not all of the blocks. But if you are curious about the other quilters and their blocks, you can find the Blockheads 4 archive here. This list will grow with blocks throughout the weeks during the event.

Let’s take a look at my contribution to Blockheads 4 and so much more!

Patterns full of Pluses

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I love pluses. I have created a couple of quilting patterns with pluses in the past, which you can all find in my shop.

The reason I love this block so much is that it’s easy to sew and yet versatile enough to create all sorts of different compositions making a variety of patterns for quilts. It was only logical that I contributed to Blockheads 4 with a Plus block.

Zen Chic’s contribution to Moda’s Blockheads 4

In the video I made to present block number 9, Cross my Mind, you can see how the two different sizes, a 9” block and a 4.5” block, are put together. I also show you two different sewing techniques. You get a glimpse of my new collection Frisky because I use that collection to make the 4.5” block, while the 9” block is made from my current collection Celestial.

Besides using the Cross my Mind block for the Blockheads quilt, it’s a fun block to use on its own too. Think about making a little pincushion from the 4.5” block or creating a mug rug or pillow from the 9” one. Or you can even take your favorite fabrics and turn them into framed art on your walls.

And to help you out with sewing a perfect ¼” seam to make these blocks a breeze, I have a video tutorial for you on my YouTube channel.

More Pluses in our upcoming Pluses Quilt Along!

I told you already that we have a lot going on at Zen Chic. We have a fun event coming up, our Pluses Quilt Along.

Starting at the end of June 2022, we will be sewing together the Pluses quilt over a period of 6 weeks. If you are familiar with our Quilt Alongs, you already know this will be a lovely way to sew together and share our progress with other quilters in our special Facebook group.

You can already sign up and you will be notified when we start. Now I can hear you think, “Brigitte, I probably won’t have time in the middle of summer to make this quilt.” No worries, the special newsletters that we send you are yours to keep and the secret videos will be available for you to watch whenever you want.

However, I need to point out, that if you do decide to quilt with us during the summer, you might win some amazing prizes donated by some amazing companies. Just saying!!

The Plus block in the Modern Building Blocks book

Another place to find my plus block is in my new book, Modern Building Blocks. It is an encyclopedia for the modern quilter and it houses 40 different blocks. With these blocks you can have so much fun, putting together your own quilts, pillows, bags, pincushions, wall hangers, table runners, you name it. The sky is the limit, really!

I’ve included 6 projects to give you some inspiration. The only limit is your own imagination. It is a great book to have as a reference for all the blocks you need to build your own projects.

You can buy the book for yourself or as a gift for a quilting friend or family member. I have a few copies that I’ve signed. You can find the link for a signed book only here on the Zen Chic website. But be quick, because… first come, first served!
