A Boxy Pouch Project and Blockheads Block 53

Use all your favorite fabric scraps to make this stylish boxy pouch - Download the free pattern below

A fun little project to make from all your scraps...

If you ask me, a boxy pouch is always nice to give someone for their birthday, when they graduate, or just because they’re an awesome friend. Why not make one for yourself?

The beauty of this boxy pouch is that you can use up all your little scraps by first making a fabric collage out of your leftovers. Because we all keep those little pieces of fabric, don’t we? Beautiful fabric is just a shame to toss out, am I right?

You can use this roomy pouch for all kinds of things. To keep your cosmetics together, take your sewing notions with you, or your child or grandchild can carry their crayons and coloring pencils in it. This one is so versatile!

When you put your own label on it, you really give it a personal touch. And with a little leather ribbon on the zipper pull, this fun pouch becomes a stylish one in a heartbeat. Why not sew a few from the scraps you have in your scrap-box, just to have in case you need a quick gift. A handmade one is always so thoughtful and loved by most people.

This particular boxy pouch was sewn by my friend Amaya Gutiérrez. You can follow her on Instagram where you can find her under @amuceta. Go check her out and let her know what you think about the pouch. Amaya used scraps from the collection Quotation.

To make this boxy pouch, you can find the sewing instructions on the site of Pink Stitches. Bonnie has taken a lot of photos while she was sewing which makes it easy to follow along. I bet you’re going to have a lot of fun with this project.

Still a few weeks to go in the Moda Blockheads 2020 Quilt Along. If you’ve come this long with us, I applaud you, that is just amazing. And even if you’re a few blocks behind there is no shame in that. Sometimes life comes in between and we need to prioritize our time differently.

For all of you that are awaiting the next block in this fun Quilt Along, we have the great Robin Pickens. This designer of the week made a beautiful block for us called Bear Cubs Around the Campfire.

I’m not sure where that name came from but maybe we’ll read all about it in Robin’s blog post. The symmetry in the block does suggest a go-around or circle dance or something, don’t you agree?

What we don’t need to guess about is whether there is another chance of winning a beautiful Layer Cake. This week also, Moda is giving one away and this time it’s from Robin’s collection Solana. Participating is simple, just hop on over to the Facebook Group and answer the question Robin is asking in the pinned post section. The winner will be announced on Tuesday next week.

If you rather play along on Instagram, make sure you use the hashtags #modablockheads and #modablockheads3. You will find a lot of quilting friends showing what they have made with the different block patterns. Why not follow a few that you like and connect with them. You can never have too many quilting friends, right?
