How to apply circular patches in a playful quilt pattern: BOWLS by Zen Chic and Blockheads Block 40, Ribbon Star

Quilting circles the easy way: Raw edge appliqué

Here is the third quilt pattern for my upcoming fabric line DAY IN PARIS arriving in stores by April 2019. I reproduced a former pattern, which I developed for the TRUE BLUE collection and it's called BOWLS.

Bowls is a smaller lap size quilt 55" x 55". It makes use of one Layer Cake (assortment of 42 fabrics, each 10" x 10") and therefore it showcases the complete collection, all the beautiful fabrics.

No worries about curved seams here: Bowls is pretty easy to sew: the technique used is raw edge appliqué, machine sewn. That's really easy to do.

The half circles have kind of an non-obvious order: Although they are arranged in a grid setting, they change direction once in a while or are left out here and there.

When it comes to quilting you shouldn't quilt too tight: The fusible web used with raw edge appliqué gives a bit of a stiffer touch to the fabric, so the quilting should be loose to obtain enough cozyness.

FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2018
BLOCK 40
RIBBON STAR

Last week we presented Block 39 from our Moda Blockheads 2018 (Round 2) sew along project. This week we work on Block 40, Ribbon Star, hosted by Lynne Hagmeier from Kansas Troubles

Such a cute and tiny 6" block: Take good care with your fabric placement to create that weaving look (as if the ribbons would have been woven in the middle of the block).
