Create a PHD Bag using the Sew Happy Fabrics

The PHD project bag, another fun pattern from the new fabric collection Sew Happy by Zen Chic.

Some projects have a lot of pieces. We’ve all “been there, done that”, am I right? Keeping your pieces organized is quite the challenge when you have a gazillion little half-squared triangles.

Can you imagine your work area in front of you? With your cutting mat, your ruler, and rotary cutter under 40+ different fabrics. It’s hard to keep track of what is waste, what are your pattern pieces, and what fabric you want to save for later.

Stay in control of your PHDs

Even when you have everything cut out, you still need to have them organized before you lose control and your project becomes a project half done that you don’t want to finish at all!

Of course, you can try to keep everything together in a box, like an old icebox, for example. But it’s hard to know what is in there without opening each and every box when you’re looking for a specific project. What about a regular ziplock bag? Hmmm... where is the elegancy of that, right? It would be nice to have a stylish bag to keep everything together. Especially when you want to bring to your sewing gatherings or quilting guilds.

How do you store your unfinished sewing projects?

That’s where the PHD bag comes in handy. The quote from the new Sew Happy collection is quite appropriate: “Working on my PHD, projects half done”.

This bag is an 11” x 12” sized smaller bag perfect for all the little pieces you need to keep together. It has a vinyl front so you can easily see through it to grab just the right PHD bag, in case you have multiple projects you are working on and thus multiple PHD bags.

It comes with a zipper closure. That way nothing gets lost. Plus dust and dirt stay on the outside of the bag. The PHD bag is the perfect place to keep your log units or you can bring your hand sewing hexagon projects in it.

Organize even further

Make a couple of these for your projects and just have a little piece of paper with a number on it in the bag. Use the Quilt Project Planning Sheet (which you can find here in this blog post) and write the same number on there that corresponds with the project in your PHD bag. Just a suggestion to keep you even more organized.
