Easy to sew modern star block quilt FADED
Modern approach to a traditional star block design
The third quilt pattern FADED for my new fabric line DAY IN PARIS that just hit stores is a larger lap size quilt 73" x 73". It is based on a very traditional block setting: Just a grid of stars. The only thing is: The stars fade into the background by exchanging some of the print pieces with a solid background piece. The more of the print pieces disappear, the less you can recognize the original star block. So the complete pieces look nearly as randomly thrown onto the surface.
Faded is pretty easy to sew. if you know how to sew a half square triangle, you have everything needed for this quilt. I love to trim my HSTs very accurate with the Bloc Loc ruler.
For the color story of this quilt I picked only the cool part of the collection: the hues of chartreuse, grass, aqua and indigo. I used a couple of fat-quarters, and I can imagine how different it would look in a warm or a neutral color palette.
When it came to quilting I wanted to pick up the traditional grid setting again and found a motif, which leads back to the tile character of a block setting.
