With a new collection in the shops often comes the urge to buy and make a new creation right away. Do you know that itch, or am I the only one? Especially when you had to pre-order your fabrics, and they dropped on your doorstep. You are all eager to tear open the package and soak in all those goodies.

On the hunt for the perfect pattern

Now comes the next step, finding that perfect pattern that shows off all those beautiful fabrics. And that is often a difficult one. You browse through your pattern collection. But honestly... you would love to try something new. So you go online and visit your favorite shops. Surely you have the patterns you like the most already. You want something different, period. 

3 Patterns for the Dance in Paris collection

Rest assured, I’ve got you covered. Because with the new fabric line Dance in Paris, I’ve also created a couple of patterns that feature this new collection perfectly. One of them is new, others are patterns from years back that deserved an overhaul for sure. Sewed with the latest Dance in Paris fabrics, they certainly are like new.

Pure, a golden oldie

One of the patterns for the new collection is Pure, originally from 2013, so a golden oldie. It definitely got a new look with the Dance in Paris fabrics. To make this quilt you’ll need a Layer Cake and background fabric. I used an assortment of low volumes from my fabric lines Paper and More Paper. However, you can pick whatever gives you a slight texture on a light background.

The zig-zag strips are pieced from triangles which are cut from a Layer Cake. These 42 fabrics will give you the complete variety of the collection and ensure you’ll have a nice scrapy mix on your sewing table. 

Are you wondering if the zig-zag blocks are foundation paper pieced? My answer is no. Let me explain, it’s really easy. You just cut out the triangle shapes using a template. Then you trim off your square block for that little bit of a triangle and replace this piece of the background square with a colorful one. That’s it, that’s how you get those zig-zag lines in.

The complete quilt measures 81” x 81”, a Queen Size. Are you a confident beginner quilter, then this is a perfect project for you. 

It’s time to quilt

Once my quilt top was put together and I made my quilt sandwich, Rachel Hauser from Stitched in Color made a beautiful quilt out of it. Rachel has the most gorgeous designs to choose from and she quilts edge to edge. But she also offers block quilting and border designs. With Rachel in your corner you can’t go wrong.
