One Pattern, So Many Possibilities

If you have a little one in your life, then you surely know how quickly they sprout up, just like sweet little flowers in a garden. And, if you sew clothing for children, then you can also appreciate falling in love with a pattern and wanting to make adjustments either for their cute, quirky little preferences, to suit their adorable style or even to keep up with their rapidly growing bodies.

Today I’m featuring a dress pattern from the company Made by Rae – it’s called the Geranium Dress. It’s so sweet, and very versatile which is part of what I love about it. As you can see below, I made it in two different lengths, a dress and a tunic style. The pattern offers so many possibilities like a collar, zippers, sleeves and of course, different lengths.

The pattern also provides for all ranges of sizes, from newborn to toddler to kids sizes. You can just keep sewing different versions in larger sizes and use it over and over again. For the dress length version, I used a cotton from my BREEZE collection. And, for the tunic I used Rayon, also from the BREEZE collection, which has a soft, flowy drape to it.

And this sweet girl is my granddaughter, Sammy. Isn’t she just lovely posing as our model?

This week brings us Block 21, XOXO from Lissa Alexander, our marketing director at Moda. This block has so many looks and possibilities depending on where you place which fabric, it’s really very versatile and fun. I used Lissa’s original pattern, but you can’t hardly place the original block in mine based on the way I placed the fabrics I used. I can’t wait to see all the unique interpretations of this one!
