From South to North – A German Summer Road Trip and Blockheads 2020, Block 22

Zen Chic’s Brigitte Heitland has set out on a summer adventure to the Black Forest in Germany.

Where the Winding Path Leads

There’s nothing like packing your bags and heading off on an adventure to renew, refresh and regenerate your spirit. I’ve done just that and have headed off on holiday touring through Germany. I’m eager for a long-awaited family reunion for a couple of days, and will head South to the Black Forest to see my 83-year-old mom.

From there, I’ll head North in the direction of Hamburg and Lubeck and will get to see my daughter’s family and my sweet little grandson who’s about a year and a half old. I’ll be enjoying a bit of the North Sea, and can’t wait to have the ocean wind in my face. I’ll take in the coast, the harbor of Hamburg and all of the exciting things that area has to offer.

I’ll return in a couple of weeks, and I can’t wait to see what kind of inspiration I’ll bring home with me!

And now on to this week’s Block for our year-long sew-along… Ready?

FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2020
BLOCK #22
HEN AND CHICKS

Vacation or not, I certainly wouldn’t miss the opportunity to share another wonderful block design for our year-long quilt along!

If Blockheads is new to you, welcome! Each week we share a free block pattern, and you’re welcome to go back through the last several weeks to catch up and join us any time. Be sure to check out this post to find out what fabrics you’ll need to create your own unique sampler quilt using free block patterns from Moda designers each week.

I also encourage you to stop by our Facebook community – it’s where everyone shares their blocks and cheers each other on. It’s such a wonderful community with so many new friendships and connections – this truly is one of the best parts of Blockheads! You can also share your blocks on Instagram using the hashtags #modablockheads and #modablockheads3.

You may also enjoy checking out Blockheads 2, our last round of Moda Blockheads. It was a huge success and so much fun – just as this year is turning out to be!

This week we get to see a block from Minick and Simpson, a designer duo for Moda who are considered more traditional in their style. I consider their designs to be very classy and ones that can be easily translated to modern fabrics also. I hope you enjoy interpreting this block design with your own unique style!
