How to Sew an Oven Mitt and Blockheads, Block 44

You know what I like to do during Advent? Bake cookies! And I especially have a sweet tooth, so cookies fit in perfectly.

But when baking cookies, you need a recipe, ingredients, and baking materials, right? At the beginning of this year, I showed you an apron that you could make. So now it’s about time to make some matching oven mitts, don’t you agree?

For this easy to make oven mitt we used the Chrystal Midnight fabric from the Chill fabric line. The fabrics in that line are so versatile and so much fun to work with. At least that’s what I heard from Antje Schmiedecke who made this oven mitt for me.

The pattern of this easy to sew oven mitt, I found on Virginia’s blog, Ginger Cake. No need to draw things yourself, you can just download it there. She also has some good instructions for putting it together. According to Virginia, it takes about half an hour to an hour tops to complete the oven mitt. Now, how’s that for an easy and quick project!

What about making some more to give as a present to your baking friend or family member?

If you want to try it out yourself, this is the perfect time to sew one or two with all those Advent cookies you need to make.

Speaking about cookies, the delicious-looking ones you see here come from the blog Six Sisters’ Stuff. Why don’t you give the Lemon Bar Cookie Cups a try? I bet you’re gonna use your oven mitt quite a few times!

FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2020
BLOCK #44
COMMUNITY

When those cookies are in the oven, and it’s starting to smell delicious in your home, it’s time to take out your quilting fabrics again and make the next block for the Blockheads Quilt Along from Moda while you wait for those cookies to be ready.

This week our host is Sherri McConnell from A Quilting Life. The block that she made this week is called Community. And what an appropriate name! The quilting community with people from all over the world is amazing, right?

Fun fact about Sherri, did you know that she has a special community of her own? Her podcast listeners! Yes, Sherri and her daughter Chelsi are podcast hosts. They talk about their projects, what inspires them, and their patterns and fabric collections. Go check out Sherri’s website and you’ll find links to the different channels to listen in.

Moda’s Layer Cake Giveaway

In this last sprint to the end of Blockheads 3, 2020 (yeah, I know, it makes me feel a little melancholy as well), Moda is so generous to give away a Layer Cake from the designer of the week.

So this week it will be Sherri’s Layer Cake Balboa. All you need to do is go over to the Facebook group and follow the instructions on what to do when you wanna win this beautiful Layer Cake. You have until the next block is presented.

Fingers crossed, good luck, and of course, happy quilting my friends!
