How to Sew a Kindle Holder for Reading Comfortably in Bed

What a stylish Kindle holder made with the CELESTIAL fabric line by Zen Chic!

Reading in bed

Do you like to read in bed? Lying down and reading in bed is really a wonderful way to end the day. And it has more benefits than you might think. Reading is stress-reducing, it makes you sleepy, but reading can also boost your brainpower. And although I can’t keep my eyes open for very long, I do like to read before they close shut.

Using my Kindle

Recently, I bought a Kindle for easy access to multiple books and to organize all of them in a practical way. I like to use it to read in bed, it’s light and handy. However, if I hold it for a while my arms get tired, not to mention I’m getting chilly from having to have my arms above my blanket. And I thought… “well, I would like to have it just lying next to me while I snuggle under my blanket.”

I wanted to have something where I could “park” my Kindle, so I only needed to tap the screen to flip the pages. Sure, I could sit up straight and just hold my Kindle, but I would get cold… and frankly, I love snuggling under my blanket. I tried to use a pillow to put my Kindle against, but the darn thing kept falling over!

Making a Kindle holder

So I decided to do some research and I found a great tutorial to sew my own Kindle holder or Kindle stand. While making this handy little thing, I filmed putting it together, so you can create one for yourself as well.

The print I used for my Kindle holder is "News dropping Maize" from my collection Celestial.

It matches the interior of my bedroom and using a beautiful fabric makes the Kindle holder a stylish item to have ready on your nightstand.

A great gift

This little bean bag (or actually rice bag) is perfect to sew yourself on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Or whenever you have some time to kill. You don’t need many supplies. Just some fabric, rice, and filling. It doesn’t take much time to put the holder together either.

I would even suggest, if you’ve used it for a while and you like it, make a couple of them as a gift to others. Maybe your baking-loving friend could use one in the kitchen for her digital recipes. Or your granddaughter would love one to use while learning how to play the guitar. Use a masculine fabric and you’ll have a great gift for the different men in your life.

This mobile stand is perfect for everybody who uses their iPhone, iPad, or Kindle and wants to have their hands free for other things.

Interesting reads

Oh, I wanted to tell you, the YouTube channel that got me into reading on my Kindle is the one from Jack Edwards. He recommends the newest reads and interesting books. It’s like a sophisticated book club and I started reading more often than before. Check it out, I think you’d really like his channel.

Right now, I’m in the middle of Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. It’s a lovely book and I can really recommend it.

So tell me in the comments, would you like to make this Kindle holder? And for whom would you like to make it?
