There are a handful of colors you use again and again and again as a quilter, right? First and most important thread color for you? For me it is white. Because I often use white solid to make my quilt blocks pop and sparkle. And not to forget a light grey, or a medium one, or a darker one... 
if you work scrappy, then the mix of colors would result in a grey or a beigy brown. So this thread color is something I use for scrappy projects.

And you will of course need black, maybe some neutrals in various shades, like tan, sand, amber.

My curated selection of thread colors for Aurifil has exactly all these colors in the box. So you can work with them (depending on your amount of stitching) for months and years. A selection you will use over and over again.

9 basic colors and 3 special selects

Besides the just trivial basic colors I added three more threads to have something special: two variegated threads, one in a lighter ombre, the second one in a more contrasting black and white. The beautiful changing movement in these multicolor threads make them the perfect ingredient to show your quilting. Especially when you use a nearly solid fabric to stitch on, maybe on the background of the quilt or on the negative space on the front: A variegated thread adds a special something to your quilting (like the example above in green and brown, which is not part of the thread box).

I also added that golden yellow, which compliments the golden highlights in my White Christmas collection. You can use it for appliquéing the little stars on the THOSE THREES quilt, or topstitch a hem and lots of more possibilities.

This makes the thread box for a perfect gift: either for your quilting friend, or just for yourself!

Last week's block #11 was a modern block with a bit of a challenge: a partial seam. This week we have something more traditional, and maybe even more of a challenge. The block of this week is hosted by Lisa Bongean.
Lisa has this special something for intricate blocks. She really can make it happen to have more than 100 little pieces in a 6" block. So I think we can be glad to have only to deal with those 48 pieces in her little 6" square block.
Lisa is our host for  Block #12 in our  Moda Blockheads 2018 (Round 2) quilt along.

Now look what happened to me: I was concentrated to get my tiny little pieces matching and so excited when I finally finished the block and trimmed fraying threads and edges, that .... outsch! OH NOOOOOO, Lol! To whom of you did that happen once too???

Trimmed off the seam allowance. Ok, make that upper section again!

A 6" block, and I definitely prefer more simpler ones...
