What kind of quilt would a teenager like?

New modern quilt fabric collection FILIGREE by Zen Chic

What an exciting time this is for your teenager.

As you can see, this is a great time to give them a gift that shows how much you care about them. They may not know it yet, but they will appreciate your thoughtfulness later on in life when they are older and wiser.

Whether you are a sewing mom or a grandmother, you can give your loved one a very special and personalized quilt - one that really suits their taste and will be considered cool by their friends!

The transition from being a child to becoming an adult.

A quilt is a great way to help your teen express her individuality and personality. It's also a way for you to connect with the person that she or he is becoming.

A quilt can be used as a blanket, but it can also be used as decoration in her or his room or even on the wall. You can choose colors that match your teenager's favorite colors, or go with something bolder if she/he likes bright colors!

With so many possibilities available today, there are many different types of quilts available depending on what kind of look your teenager's room should have and what decorating scheme she or he wants:

A teenager's room needs to be a place that reflects who they are, but also their future and the things they are interested in at this time in their lives.

It's important to choose a quilt that will appeal to them, as well as make them feel comfortable in their own space.

You may want to talk with them first and let them choose the pattern, colors, and fabrics-that way you can be sure the quilt is to their liking.

On the other hand, it wouldn't have the effect of a surprise, something unexpected and precious. If you want to go this route, you should have the right ingredients: A quilt pattern that is cool, bold, and modern; colors that will work in your teen's room; and fabrics that look fresh and youthful.

The ON THE PLUS SIDE quilt pattern has all these ingredients: it is bold and striking, making it ideal for someone who wants something that stands out from the crowd.

The black and white contrasts create a modern graphic look that isn't old-fashioned or traditional in any way. This makes it perfect for teenagers who love quilts but don't want one that looks like grandma's antique quilt from 1910 (which is also great).

The design features bold black plus signs on a white background with modern graphic fabrics so it doesn't look old-fashioned or traditional.
It's modern but timeless too, so it will still look great when the teenager grows up!  Lots of teenagers love quilts so why not make one for them? It will be a special gift from you, which can be used on their bed or couch as a throw blanket or decorative piece of decor.

If you're looking for something unique and modern but also timeless for your teen's bedroom or living room, then making a quilt might be just what you need!

Are you ready for a little quilting?

We've got a new pattern for you, and it's called ON THE PLUS SIDE.

This quilt is easy to make even if you've never sewn before—it's a great way to dip your toes into the sewing world. All you need is some fabric and thread, and we'll show you how to get started!

I made my quilt top with a slightly textured white background fabric and an assortment of black prints from our new in stores collection FILIGREE (available now). Let me show you the prints in detail.

For the white background, I used one of my SPOTTED basics. The subtle texture in dark graphite gives it just enough interest to fill in the large space without competing with the fabrics with motifs.

The Plus Signs are all black and have dots, rice corns, dandelions, or an imposing newspaper as their theme.

The eye-catching cherry on top is the yellow binding.

Now of course this pattern offers many versions: you can change up the background to match the colors of the room and you could make each Plus Sign in a different fabric, may it be a solid or a print. So if your granddaughter for example loves pink - make the background in this color and let the Plus Signs sparkle in all rainbow hues.

If your grandson loves computer games (and which teenage boy does not?) make the background black and the plus signs in blues of various saturation, maybe even a neon green sign here and there.

ON THE PLUS SIDE is a downloadable PDF pattern that you can buy and print at home. It's super simple, and we made it so you can have your very own quilt ready to snuggle up with in a short time.

This pattern is great for beginners looking to get started with their first quilt project. Just follow the step-by-step instructions to make your own unique piece of art!

The finished size is 81” x 81”, perfect to cover a bed, but you can always make it smaller by sewing less rows.

ON THE PLUS SIDE is available in our shop now.
