Fragment QAL 4
Welcome to Week 4 of the FRAGMENT Quilt Along! This week, we're taking an exciting step forward—introducing you to the art of foundation paper piecing with blocks 4 and 5. Don't let the technique intimidate you; these blocks are designed to be beginner-friendly and perfect for your first foray into paper piecing. Of course, if you prefer, you can always substitute them with blocks of type 1, 2, or 3. But trust me, you'll be amazed at how easy these blocks are to sew using foundation paper piecing and how precise your results will be.
Let's Explore Paper Piecing!
In this week's YouTube tutorial, I'll guide you through assembling these two unique paper-pieced blocks. Each one offers a different challenge, keeping your quilting journey exciting. We'll be making multiple blocks of each type, allowing us to really hone our paper piecing skills. I'll show you how to achieve perfect points and precise seams using this technique. Before you know it, you'll have mastered a new quilting skill and created some stunning blocks!
Remember, our Zen Chic Facebook group is always here for your questions and support. Don't forget to share your paper piecing progress on Instagram using #FragmentQAL for a chance to win our weekly prizes (more details at the end of this post). Ready to piece some paper magic?
Your Assignment for Week 4:
Assemble Block 4 and 5
Alright, quilting friends, here's your exciting Week 3 mission: create 5 each of blocks 1, 2, and 3! That's a total of 15 beautiful blocks to add to your Fragment project. If you're customizing your quilt size, you might need to adjust the number of blocks - feel free to sew more or fewer as needed for your unique vision.
Alright, quilting enthusiasts, it's time for our exciting Week 4 adventure: creating blocks 4 and 5 using the foundation paper piecing technique! First things first, let's gather our templates. You'll find these in your quilting pattern. If you're working with a printed brochure, you'll notice both templates overlapping but in different colors, similar to a clothing pattern. Here's what you need to do: make 10 copies of this page, then cut out the red square 5 times and the green square 5 times. For those using our PDF version from the shop, these blocks are on separate pages - simply print each page 5 times.
Now that we have our templates ready, let's dive into the fun part! As you piece these blocks together, remember that foundation paper piecing allows for incredible precision. Take your time to align your fabrics correctly, and watch as your blocks come to life with perfect points and crisp lines. We can't wait to see your progress, so don't forget to share your work with us using #FragmentQAL. Your unique interpretation of these blocks is what makes this quilt-along so exciting and inspiring!
Because this task is somewhat more time-consuming, we have allowed two weeks for it, after which we will move on to the next step on February 12.
