Those Trees QAL 4

Week 4 of Those Trees Quilt Sew Along: Bring Your Small Tree Blocks to Life with Appliquéd Stars and Pro Tips

Welcome to Week 4 of the "THOSE TREES" Quilt Along! By now, you’re a pro at sewing those adorable tree blocks, and this week, we’re going to add a little extra sparkle to your project by appliquéing the stars. Let’s get ready to bring those small tree blocks to life with a bit of star-studded magic!

You’re already familiar with the technique for sewing the small tree blocks, so this week should be a breeze! Our YouTube tutorial will walk you through the steps once again, but I bet you’ll be flying through those blocks with confidence. Your assignment for this week is to sew 10 small tree blocks—let’s get those trees growing!

Adding the Cherry on Top: Appliquéing the Stars

Once all your blocks are sewn, it’s time to add the stars—the cherry on top of your beautiful tree blocks. Remember, in Week 2, we prepped these stars by reinforcing them with fusible web and cutting them out. Now, it’s time to appliqué them onto your tree blocks.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Thread Choice: I recommend using a cotton thread that matches the color of your stars.

  • Stitch Selection: Go with a small zigzag stitch—just tight enough to secure the edges but not too dense.

  • Placement Tips: When you’re pressing the stars onto your blocks, have a little fun! Rotate them, adjust their positions slightly, and create some variety to keep your tree row lively and dynamic.

This final touch will make your tree blocks truly shine, adding that perfect festive flair to your quilt.

Reminder: Two Size Options

Don’t forget—whether you’re making the Lap-Size quilt or the Table Runner, the number of blocks and star placements will differ slightly. Make sure you’re following the instructions for your chosen size to keep everything on track.

Your Assignment for Week 4: Assemble the Small Trees and Appliqué the Stars

All right, quilters, here's your Week 4 mission:

make 10 of those adorable small tree blocks! Take your time to carefully cut and piece together each block, ensuring that every tree is perfect.

Once you have completed your tree blocks, it's time to get creative. Decorate each of your tree blocks by adding some sparkle with a star. Don't rush this part; the more attention you give to the details, the more beautiful your quilt will be in the end.
