BLOCK 19
ROCKY ROAD TO CALIFORNIA
Last week we worked on three blocks, Block 16, 17 and 18. That was the week with the most blocks to accomplish. But they were simple and you could master that.
This week we have again two blocks in our Moda Blockheads 2018 (Round 2) project. We start with ROCKY ROAD TO CALIFORNIA, hosted by Betsy Chutchian. I guess there were times when the roads to California were actually rocky, we have here indeed a traditional quilt block design. Nowadays the roads to California are no longer rocky, more a bit of busy, sometimes overcrowded and with a couple of lanes in each direction. Maybe the nowadays block would be a strip pieced one with a lot of crossing inserts, hehe.

BLOCK 20
GO FISH
This one is so easy to sew, just a pleasure: Go Fish, hosted by Stacy Iest Hsu (will I ever learn to spell that foreign sounding name right, :-)? ).
I loved to make this little block, it was by a time when we had nearly 100° Fahrenheit this summer and I longed to be at the sea. Actually I longed so much for a cool breeze and the fresh, cool water washing around my feed, that I spontaneously drove to the Netherland’s coast for two days at the beach. It was so worth it: I could reload my batteries and slow down. During the last hours of the day, sitting in the patio of my hotel with a glass of wine, enjoying the still warm evening air, my head brimmed from new fabric design ideas and I sketched down a lot of new patterns for the next spring collection. This was one of my best moments of 2018!
Block 20, Go Fish
I could imagine a blanket for the picnic at the sea with some ribbons of pieced fishes in all maritime colors or a baby welcome quilt with randomly thrown fish blocks all over the background.
