Quilt Along Blockheads 2018 - Block 3 and a free Christmas Pattern

WHITE CHRISTMAS fabrics have hit stores these days and to inspire you I created this free pattern.

A kind of storm of requests arose when I posted a picture of the above table topper a couple of weeks ago on Instagram.  People wanted to know, if there is a pattern available and where to find it.
I heard you, I got you - so I made the pattern available for everybody. And since the new collection of  WHITE CHRISTMAS has just hit stores I thought I might give it for free, so you get inspired to start sewing for Christmas.

A Layer Cake of White Christmas fabrics would be the perfect ingredient to have enough variety for all the stars on the table topper. And the left overs give you another one for a friend or some nice napkins or placemats for the Christmas dinner.

Now on to block 3 of our free quilt along - blockheads fun!

BLOCK 3
PENNSYLVANIA

It's so much fun to sew together with you on the Moda Blockheads 2018 (Round 2) project. I love all the different variations of blocks popping up in the feed of our facebook group. How different a block can look by only changing the fabrics or values, astonishing! If you haven't joined that group, you definitely should: So much inspiration.

Last week we sewed  Block 2, which was a 6" Block. Like the one which is on today:

This week's round is hosted by Carrie Nelson, the heart behind the Moda Blog. I got to know Carrie through my work quite a while ago and although she is very experienced and a pro in her field, she is  still a down to earth, kind and cheerful soul.
And Carrie is a genius, really! So talented! She runs her successful pattern shop "Miss Rosie's Quilt Company" for many years already, where she offers a myriad of awesome creations.  One of my favorites is this happy, srappy quilt on the right with all the little houses. It's made from Charm Packs.

And this shows another talent of Carrie: she knows, how to efficiently use all the Moda Precuts. She knows it so well, that she developed a complete new product, which I totally love: Cake Mix and Cupcake Mix recipes. If you have never heard of these, you might think: What the heck are they?
These are pads of paper, to be specific a kind of weak paper especially working for paper piecing. The pads have all  kind of sewing lines. So you basically layer two swatches from Layer Cakes (or Charm Packs), let's say a print and a background, put a sheet of the paper pad on top, sew along the given lines, and get perfectly sewn sets of half square triangles, efficiently using the fabric swatch size. Watch a complete video to see how this product works - I love it for the speed and accuracy I can achieve with the paper sheets!

I used the cupcake mix No1 recipe and one Charm Pack of COLORBOX, one Charm Pack of whites to make this 24" x 24" Table topper, it was made in one afternoon - and the precision is so satisfying.

Carrie is also experienced to know what works in a quilt and what doesn't. So for our mystery sampler she chose deliberately a simple block for the 6" size (the 6" blocks can get lost in the complete setting, if they are too differentiated)
The same reason led me to go with only two fabrics for this block: I want to keep it simple and clean, so the look doesn't get lost in the complete setting.

Here is my version of Block 3. You will find the download for the sewing instructions hosted by Carrie, on the Moda Blog.
