It’s always fun to (re)decorate a space in your house, right? That can’t be just me? Bare walls make a room echoing and cold, impersonal. But you can do something about that. You could find a lovely painting or some beautiful inspirational quote. What about a piece of art or some family photos?

The Gumdrop Mini Quilt

Let me present the Gumdrop Mini Quilt. The name says it all, and it’s fun, cute, and easy to make. All you need is a template for the unusual shapes of the little gumdrops. I feel my mouth watering already, do you as well?!

A Charm Pack and a pattern

For this mini quilt, you can use a Charm Pack, which gives you all the different prints you need for this little quilt. In our case, we used only small-scaled prints of the Dance in Paris collection to keep the complete piece very calm. Enough is going on already in this fun quilt.

I found this pattern by Lorna Slessor in the Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine, issue 81 to be precise. Find a link to download the digital issue below. Being an Operations Editor at that same magazine, Lorna refers to the shapes as tumblers, but it doesn’t really matter, now does it? I read an interview where Lorna says: “I’d describe myself as a modern quilter, combining bold patterns and contemporary fabrics. I love working with white space, bright colors, and striking shapes (and I have a weakness for patchwork curves!)”.

It’s your turn to make your own

You can make this fun Gumdrop Mini Quilt using cool prints and a solid for some negative space. But fun, colorful fabrics are making it a stand-out piece for your wall, no doubt. My friend Amaya Gutiérrez, who sewed the mini quilt, did excellent with the Dance in Paris fabrics.
