Zen Chic - modern fabrics and quilt patterns

Let your mini-quilt be the star of the winter season and Blockheads, Block 36

Have you “Spotted” this “Striking Stars” mini-quilt?

After showing you already two other quilts, made with the Linen quotes panel from the Chill quotes fabric line being the centerpiece, I present to you my third one. Yeah, I had so many ideas inspired by those quotes. So I couldn't help to make a variety of projects. Hope you don’t blame me!

This one is a square and in the middle, there is this cute panel that's saying “Hello winter, time to get cozy”. And for this color scheme, I decided to go with something which could be traditional as well as modern. Heck, it is even a bit modern industrial style, wouldn’t you agree?

In this pattern, I used a very well known little star block, which you might know or even have made already. For the fabrics, I picked an assortment of light grey, sand, and black. The sand is matching the linen fabric of the quote panel. Using these fabrics form my collection Spotted, you keep the fabric color scheme very cohesive throughout the quilt.

This beautiful quilt is the work of a dear friend Bärbel Ott, who made this quilt for me. You can find her on Instagram: @otticreativ. Go check her out, say hi, and let her know I send you!

I wouldn’t be me if I would keep this pattern to myself, right? Sharing with quilting friends gives me such pleasure. You can hop on over to the shop, but to make it even easier for you, here you go!

FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2020
BLOCK #36
BROKEN DISHES

Are you still with us in this year-long project? Not exactly sure what I’m talking about? Let me fill you in.

Every week of 2020, we share a free block pattern from a talented Moda designer! And we even have a wonderful Facebook community where you can find all the free blocks that have been made so far by the designers in the files section.

Whether you’re just jumping in or you’ve been sewing along, be sure to share your blocks and projects with us, it’s a big part of the fun! You can also share them on Instagram using the hashtags #modablockheads and #modablockheads3. Besides, there is so much inspiration to find on these 2 social media platforms!

This week’s block is made by Laurie Simpson. She is a more traditional designer for Moda although Laurie has lots of cool classic ideas where you can easily use modern fabrics too. The block that Laurie made for us is called “Broken Dishes”. Although a broken dish is never a good thing, I’m glad to have this one, right?

So, what’s it gonna be for you? Are you gonna choose a modern touch or go with a traditional feel? Let me know in the comments, I love to hear from you.

Don't miss the other blockheads involved in this project:
