Sewcialites Block 19 - UNITY by Lissa Alexander
“Unity” doesn’t have to be hard
How are the blocks for your sampler quilt coming along? Last week we had the Hearty block from Corey Yoder, remember? Maybe you’ve shown it already to your quilting buddies in the Sewcialites Lounge, the special Facebook group for this Fat Quarter Shop Quilt Along.
Today we have another lovely one. Let’s take a look.
The designer of the week is Lissa Alexander. Besides a mom and grandma, Lissa quilts with heart and soul. She loves making scrappy quilts, but also quilting with only 2 colors is a favorite. Go check out her website at Modalissa and you’ll get a whole lot of eye candy!
The block Lissa designed for us this week is called Unity. It’s a nice block, not too hard to put together with squares and half-square triangles. The way the fabric pieces are “united” gives it a pretty look, no matter how simple the fabric pieces might be, don’t you agree?
That’s the beauty with this Quilt Along. Some blocks are a bit harder, the next one is slightly simpler. It’s all a learning process. Should you need a helping hand, Kimberley from Fat Quater Shop is here to help you out.
Every Friday morning from 9 am CDT, she is hosting a live-stream on their YouTube channel. Kimberley is showing how to put the blocks together and quilting with us all in real-time. And if you can’t make it you can always watch the replay. However, the beauty of joining live is that you can ask questions if you hit a rough spot or if something is not quite clear.
When your block is ready and pressed, make a snapshot and put it on your Instagram account. Did you know you can win some awesome prizes? Make sure Fat Quarter Shop finds you by using the special hashtag #SewcialitesQAL. Only then you will be added to the drawing of the monthly prize sponsored by great companies like Creative Grids or Stella Lightning.
The only thing left to do is downloading Lissa’s Unity block and start sewing.
