Sewcialites Block 21 - ZEST by Brigitte Heitland
Adding that little bit of “Zest”...
Do you like to cook? Maybe not as much as you like to quilt, but preparing delicious cakes, pies, or lemon bar cookie cups is something fun to do as well. For the best results, you need the best ingredients.
The same is true for quilting. To make a beautiful quilt you also need to have the best ingredients. Some days, you find the finest fabrics and the perfect blocks yourself. And other days you could use a little help.
That’s why it’s so much fun to join a Quilt Along such as Sewcialites. You get all those wonderful blocks presented on a silver platter. This week it’s my turn to give you a new block to work with.
I call this block Zest, a little bit of flavor to your sampler quilt. This block has many options. You can make it using just 2 colors as you can see in my original design. There I used my Quotation fabric, Ink V’s in black and a white background fabric.
For the low-volumes block, I used Amber from my Spotted collection combined with a print of my collection More Paper. This aircraft print is very popular among boys and men to have a shirt sewn of this fabric. And the fun part, it comes in 4 different shades.
But back to the Zest block. I also wanted to show you a third option, the more scrappy look. You get this by using a different fabric for each little piece of the block. As you can see here, I used my Chill collection for that.
You see there is a little bit of Zest for everyone’s taste, whether you want to keep it simple and modern or a bit more extravagant.
Once you’ve made a decision on what fabrics to use and you’ve made your block, don’t forget to show us on all the social media channels. Use the hashtag #SewcialitesQAL on Instagram to win amazing prizes each month. Or come Sewcialize in the Facebook group.
