The Compass Mini Quilt and the Start of the Bauhaus Quilt Along!
Sometimes when we finish a big project like a bed size or even a queen size quilt, we don’t always want to jump into the next big thing. It’s just as much fun to work on a smaller project once in a while.
A fun smaller quilting project
You can make all sorts of fun smaller items, like a handy bag or a cozy pillow. But also a mini quilt is a great option. A mini quilt can be an interesting wall hanger, and it can be perfect as a table topper as well.
If you are searching for a fun mini quilt, look no further. This Compass Mini Quilt is what you’re looking for.
For our mini quilt, we have used our recent collection Quotation in combination with a lot of scraps from the current collection Modern Background, Even More Paper. As you can see, those Even More Paper low volumes let the colorful Quotation prints really pop. Don’t you agree, don’t they give this quilt a nice interesting background?
The Mini Quilt’s size
The quilt was made from 4 x 4 blocks so 16 in total. In the compass patches close to the edges and corners, the colored prints were replaced by background fabrics. This gives the mini quilt kind of a wider border. The single blocks are 6" square, so the complete quilt is about 24" square.
To help you out with sewing the Compass block we have both a video tutorial and a block diagram and tutorial you can print out with templates for foundation paper piecing in different sizes. That way you can make your mini quilt as large or small as you like.
This example of the Compass Mini Quilt was beautifully sewn by Gaby Beck (@gabyelisabethbeck at IG). Thank you so much, Gaby.
Zen Chic 2022 Bauhaus Quilt Along - week 1
Today we’re going to start another Quilt Along. We will be sewing the Bauhaus Quilt together. I’m so excited to bring you this 6-week quilting project as one of many Quilt Alongs for 2022 that are out there.
We are celebrating the launch of the new fabric collection More Background Even More Paper with a fabulous online get-together. We are going to make a beautiful Bauhaus quilt over the next 6 weeks.
The Bauhaus pattern is specially designed for this new collection. By the end of our 6 weeks of sewing together, you will have a wonderful new quilt to decorate your home with, give as a gift, or enjoy yourself.
As a participant of our QAL, you will get a few bonuses and 3 different sizes is one of them - the regular one, a lap size quilt, and a pillow. You get to pick your favorite!
Of course, it is up to you to decide which fabrics you will use, but since we are celebrating the new Even More Paper collection, quilting shops have been putting together quilting kits just for this Quilt Along. In each kit, you will find enough fabric to make the Bauhaus quilt.
Week 1 - choosing our fabrics
This week our participants are going to plan their fabrics with our free planner sheets and shopping. They also get some great tips on how to choose their fabrics in a video tutorial. I’m curious to see what people are going to choose. Check out the hashtag #bauhausqal on Instagram to follow along.
How can you participate in our QAL?
You can join the QAL by signing up and I will share all the instructions through a special newsletter each week during the 6 weeks we are running the QAL. In each newsletter, you will get detailed information on how to put together each piece of this modern quilt. (Be aware, this will not be in our regular newsletter. This is a special one dedicated to the Bauhaus Quilt Along.)
I will share bonus materials, I don’t share anywhere else. Think about video tutorials and special tips and tricks to keep you going. Through an exclusive Facebook group just for this Bauhaus QAL, you have access directly to me and my team should you run into issues or challenges. And of course, share your progress and talk to other participants!
Prizes to win!
To make it even more fun, we found some amazing sponsors for our Quilt Along. During the weeks before the QAL, you could win some fun Early Bird prizes, like a Fat Quarter Bundle of Frisky donated by Moda Fabrics or a free Bauhaus pattern from us. We have contacted the winners of those prizes. Congratulations!
This week our participants in the Quilt Along are in the running to win a $100 gift certificate from Fat Quarter Shop.
Want to join this fun modern Quilt Along as well and have a chance at some pretty amazing prizes? Sign up for the special newsletter.
