The quilt design resembles a high-rise facade, where other architectural elements are reflected in its windows. This architectural inspiration adds a unique, urban flair to the design, creating a captivating interplay of shapes and patterns.
Our project is designed to appeal to quilters of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned crafters.
Featuring a minimalist aesthetic with clean lines, FRAGMENT incorporates the variety of a sampler quilt into a cohesive design. Participants will explore five different block variations, allowing for a rich learning experience.The pattern balances simple piecing with more advanced techniques like Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP), providing opportunities for skill development. We're excited to showcase our elegant OLIVE YOU collection with this versatile pattern, though it shines with various fabric choices, including solids or blenders like our SPOTTED line.
Alternative fabric choices
Our Fragment QAL is all about celebrating our beautiful OLIVE YOU **collection, but we also encourage you to explore other fabric options! Fabrics from our SPOTTED collection can add a lovely texture to your quilt. Whether you prefer a soft, muted palette or vibrant, contrasting colors, any fabric combination that speaks to you will work wonderfully with the Fragment pattern.
We're excited to see your unique interpretations of this modern design. Remember, the beauty of quilting lies in personal expression, so feel free to let your creativity shine!
For our quilt we used:
The original FRAGMENT quilt measures 71" x 71", making it a perfect lap-size quilt. However, one of the great features of this pattern is its flexibility. You can easily customize the size to suit your needs by adding or removing rows or columns. Don't feel constrained by the square shape either - your quilt can be rectangular if that's what you prefer. Whether you want a cozy throw for your couch, a statement piece for your wall, or a generous bedspread, you can adapt the FRAGMENT pattern to create your ideal size. We encourage you to consider your space and intended use, then decide on the dimensions that work best for you. Remember, in quilting, there are no rigid rules - it's all about creating something you'll love!
Where do I get the fabrics?
For our European customers we even have the original fabrics here in our German online shop, or you can find them also at Farbenrausch.
What does the schedule look like?
Our Fragment Quilt Along will span 5 weeks, starting on January 1, 2025, and you can join in at any time. The schedule is as follows:
We kick off the first week, with an introduction to the project, guiding you through fabric selection and gathering all necessary supplies. The following week, is all about precision cutting - you'll prepare all your fabrics for the upcoming piecing stages. Weeks three and four are where the magic happens. You'll dive into block construction, first using simple piecing methods, then advancing to paper piecing techniques. Don't worry if you're hesitant about FPP—you can always stick to the simpler block types. Finally, our QAL culminates in the last week, where you'll bring all the elements together, assembling your quilt top. We'll also share valuable tips on binding and quilting, empowering you to put the finishing touches on your creation. Remember, you can join at any point in this journey - we're here to support you every step of the way!
