Peace, Wellness and a Beautiful Aroma
Did you know that our sense of smell is the most sensitive of them all? So much so that memories can be summoned in the most vivid and clear ways, bringing about fond thoughts and warm feelings. The smell of lavender is one that almost anyone immediately recognizes, and its health and wellness benefits have been touted for literally centuries. While it can be used typically in oil form or consumed through tea, the scent of lavender alone promotes calmness and wellness, and reduces stress and anxiety.
It makes wonderful sense, then, that bringing the scent of lavender to your cupboards and drawers may just be the extra added touch of peace you’ve been looking for. These lovely lavender sachets can be sewn in an afternoon and are absolutely beginner-friendly using a free pattern from Purl Soho. Mine are made from a charm pack, so the already-cut 5-inch squares made this an even simpler and quick project. The backside is a Mochi Linen print from the BREEZE collection, giving them a unique style all their own.
You can make a large batch of these sachets using an entire charm pack – how about 21 of them? Fill your cupboards and drawers with a peace-promoting aroma, or give them as a thoughtful gift to a friend with an encouraging note, a gesture that would surely be appreciated during these times when so many are feeling isolated and unsure.

FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2020
BLOCK #16
DREAM
And now on to something I so enjoy sharing - this week’s block! If you’re new to Blockheads, we share a free block pattern each week in this year-long quilt-along. You’re welcome to go back through the last several blog posts to catch up and join in any time. Be sure to check out this post to find out what fabrics you’ll need to create your own unique sampler quilt using free block patterns from Moda designers each week.
And if you’ve been participating and sewing along, come share your blocks with us in our wonderful Facebook community or on Instagram using the hashtags #modablockheads and #modablockheads3. What makes Moda Blockheads such a special experience are the new friends and the camaraderie of participating in this project together over a year’s time.
You can also go back and check out Blockheads 2, our last round of Moda Blockheads. Like round 3 is turning out to be, it was a fabulous time with a great community of quilters and lots of new friendships.
This week’s block, Number 16, Dream, comes to us from Moda designer Sherri McConnell. This is a fairly simple block to sew. Its half-square triangles make it so easy, and you’ll have lots of fun like I did with this block. The look of this block all depends on where you place which fabrics – get creative and have some fun with it!
