FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2018
BLOCK 35
GIBBY
Last week we worked on Block 34, a lovely figurative design from our Moda Blockheads 2018 (Round 2) project. This weeks Block 35, in contrast, is purely geometric and simply made of rectangular patches, which puts a focus on the interplay of colors that you choose.
Block 35, Gibby
The block is hosted by Laurie Simpson, one of the sisters designer team Minick and Simpson, who create beautiful quilts matching a traditionally styled home. They use piecing as well as appliqué to make their heirloom quilts, often in the blue/red/white (patriotic) color scheme. BTW, Laurie's sister, Polly Minick, recently retired, so it is just Laurie who runs the design business now. The two released a book in 2017 showing Polly's home with all the beautiful quilts displayed, a feast for the eyes! It is called Blue and White: Living with Textiles You Love.
Like the classic quilt on the bookcover the quilt style of Laurie is always classy: As in With a Plus and Economy Path you can pracically use all kind of fabrics for the Gibby block and it will blend in perfectly into any style, no matter if traditional or modern. I really love the simplicity of this Block 35 and kept mine simple in fabric choices too: Just one hue of the Grunge fabrics and randomly arranged low volumes. Can't wait to see yours...
