When you are an enthusiastic sewer and quilter, you probably have a lot of sewing supplies. I'm thinking about fabrics, tape measures, scissors, pins and needles, threads, rulers, you catch my drift, right?
Getting organized
It can quickly become somewhat unorganized, to put it mildly. Especially when you have your own sewing room, and you can just close the door behind you when you're done for the day. Or if you work on the dining room table and you need to pack everything away each time your family wants to eat a meal together, or the kids want to play a game.
What you need are some organizing tools. You can certainly go for plastic containers, some glass jars, or some shelves. I love all kinds of organizing tools, don't you? But when those are made from fabric, it makes them even better.
Introducing the fabric basket. These kinds of baskets are perfect for smaller notions to keep nearby your sewing machine on your desk for easy use. Or storing fabrics and keep on your shelves. Maybe even have a basket for each fabric collection or color.
This particular one is made by Bärbel Ott following a German pattern, but I'm sure you can find similar ones in English browsing Pinterest. It has the perfect size to store a Fat Quarter Bundle and other pre-cuts.
Perfect gifts
Once you have your own fabric baskets made and your sewing supplies are nice and organized again, why not make a few more to give away or to use as gift wrapping.
It would make a wonderful gift for an expecting mother filled with a few diapers, a little bottle of lotion, and a fun toy . It's always nice to bring a gift to a baby shower or for your first visit when the baby is born.
Or for your friend who just got a new job. Put a nice notebook, a little succulent for their desk, pens and pencils, some post-it notes, and a fun mug in it to create a thoughtful gift. You could even make them a boxy pouch or a pencil pouch as well for the pens and pencils.
What about giving someone who loves to cook a fabric basket with a recipe, the ingredients, and an oven mitt or some potholders . It would be even more fun when you attend a cooking class together, and this nice gift is the invitation.
Keep 'm in store
As you can see, a fabric basket is always a good idea. You can make a couple of those, so you always have something to give away. Or for when you buy a new collection, and you need to store it in your now organized sewing area.
