Take to Flight with Just Red
As we’ve been seeing with my newest fabric collection, JUST RED, this beautiful and diverse color brings so many things to the imagination. The joy of a child’s red ball, a fiery sunset, turning leaves, that perfect shade of red lipstick, the crimson of a cardinal taking flight… The possibilities for creative expression go on and on with this series.
Today I bring you this Feather Block using the JUST RED fabric line. This cute little block can be used for all kinds of projects, including a pillow case front, framed wall-art, or even a table runner or placemat. You could also even enhance some clothing – can you imagine a denim jacket embellished with this feather on the back? So stylish and unique!
The block yields a 12-inch square. You can make it larger for a pillowcase by adding a border, or you can trim the left and right sides a bit to make it a rectangle to embellish a smaller project with. You can also use up all your tiny little snippets and scraps and make something gorgeous with them!
Make sure you set your printer to ‘actual size’ in the dialogue box because this is designed for an American letter-size sheet. If you are located in Europe and use a DIN A4 format or similar make sure you use ‘actual size’ setting.
Another option would be to set your printer on a smaller percentage – like 50% – to get a smaller block.

FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2020
BLOCK #6
MAGIC
Have you been following along with Blockheads 2020? Or even better yet, have you joined us in this fun and free year-long sew along? BlockHeads 2 was a huge hit, and our Facebook community of 30,000 quilters shared their beautiful, unique interpretations of each week’s block as we went along. And don’t forget Instagram! You can use the hashtags #modablockheads and #modablockheads3 to share your blocks there… So, we’re at it again with Blockheads 3, and so far it’s been simply wonderful!
I shared a little bit about my layout a few weeks ago – if you’re following along be sure to check out that post to find out what fabrics you’ll need.
This week’s block, Magic, is brought to us by Lisa Bongean. Lisa has been very traditional with her quilts as well as her fabric collections. She’s now bringing a twist on modern quilts with her small scale prints in black, white and grays and creating beautiful, modern projects.
We know Lisa as someone who loves to make a 6-inch block with a zillion little pieces, and this time she’s added lots of half-square triangles to this little piece of block. You will be challenged a bit! My finished block below is 6-inches, and it is a bit of work but you will manage to get all those small bits in there.
