A spiced-up tote bag with French seams
As quilters, most of the time we work with teeny tiny bits of fabric. Wouldn’t it be nice to have fun with some bigger pieces? Yes? I was hoping you might say that!
That’s why I have here for you a tote bag to sew. This easy but practical bag is a quick project that you can use for so many things. For your groceries, your library books, or to carry your next quilting project. See how things got full circle here?
The tote bag doesn’t have a lining, but it has French seams to make a beautiful bag even on the inside. Oh, la la...French seams, sounds fancy, right? But even if you never have sewn French seams before, not to fear because in this easy to follow tutorial it is all explained thoroughly. And I will let you in on a little secret here... it’s only two right seams.
Of course, wanting to spice up this simple tote bag a little, there is a panel from the Chill Mochi Linen Quote Panels used as a cute pocket. Have your wallet in there or your notions, that way they don’t get lost at the bottom of your tote bag. Clever right?
You can find the Chill Mochi Linen Quote Panels at your favorite stockist.
This fun little tote bag was sewn for me by Bärbel Ott, find more of her on Instagram at @otticreativ.
FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2020
BLOCK #35
COMING TOGETHER
Remember last week’s block? With all those little pieces? Rest assured, this week we have a block that isn’t that complicated. But... that doesn’t mean it is a boring one. On the contrary my friend. Let’s take a look.
This week Lissa Alexander, the marketing chief at Moda is contributing with an awesome block. Her block is called “Coming Together”. What better to call this free block designed for a group of dedicated quilters who are all coming and sewing together, right?
In our Moda Blockheads Facebook group, we have a great community of almost 46.000 people. I like to follow all the conversations and see the wonderful blocks these people make. This is also an incredible group to discuss all things, important to us quilters and sewers, in making cute and beautiful pieces. Come and join us, if you haven’t already.
I’m very grateful to present Lissa’s block and to be part of this year’s free quilt along. The block Lissa gifted us has this plus and cross sign. Without a doubt a modern feel which I think is quite trendy.
Don't miss the other blockheads involved in this project:
Betsy Chutchian
Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilt

Would you like to know how to sew these fun mini fabric baskets with this free tutorial? They are quick to make and perfect for storing and organizing so many small items. Think of sewing notions, any sweets, or - as I used them - as a decorative flower pot. And the EVEN MORE PAPER fabrics make for a nice exterior!
