When I learned the title of this week’s Sewcialites block, Abundant, I had this vision of a big field full of tulips. Spring is coming and I love how my garden fills with colors and life again. So much better than the brown and bare trees in the winter.
Luckily during those cold and gray days, we can have some color in our home. Decorating with modern fabrics and lovely soft furnishings like pillows and quilts makes me happy in the winter. All while watching the YouTube Livestreams from Fat Quarter Shop. It’s certainly cozy to quilt together with Kimberly on a Friday morning at 9 am CDT.
But I’m always glad those cold days turn into warmer ones again. That’s why I was happy to see what Robin Pickens had made for our sampler quilt this week. The lovely tulip is perfect for this time of year.
Robin is thé color lady of the quilting scene. She loves playing with colors and on her blog, she posts beautiful color studies. Robin turns a block into several different ones just using different color combinations. It’s fascinating.
The block Robin designed, the tulip is a real addition to the Sewcialites sampler quilt. But how lovely would it be to make a bunch of tulips in different colors and make a quilt out of these? You could use the Spotted collection or even the smaller prints from the brand new Dance in Paris fabrics. Can you imagine how a quilt would turn out? I think it would be amazing! That would certainly bring some Spring ánd color into your home.
I would love to see what fabrics and colors you use for this block. Share it with the rest of us Sewcialites quilters using the hashtag #SewcialitesQAL. You can even win a great prize from one of the sponsors. So don’t be shy, post your block on Instagram.
Are you a member of the Sewcialites Lounge on Facebook? It’s a great group of fellow quilters talking about all things quilting and sewing. And of course, we’re showing our blocks we make from this Quilt Along. It’s a lovely group. Come join us if you haven’t already.
Now excuse me, I’m going to see if any of my tulips are emerging already. My garden could use the bright colors of these beautiful flowers.
Happy quilting!

Can you believe the Sewcialites Quilt Along is almost over? I almost say, because even though the free blocks are all shared in the quilting community, we still have a quilt to make. In this blog post I am giving some tips on how to put together the final layout I created and what materials you will need for it. And last but not least, let's take a look at what the other quilters made of this beautiful sampler quilt!
