Do you know the expression “Patience is a virtue”? Patience is one of the virtues of life that come in handy while quilting. Sometimes when a seam is not up to our standards we unpick them and start over. In a way, quilting is an excellent teacher when it comes to learning to be patient. It can help you in many other areas of life too.
Another virtue of life is honesty. When you’re not really happy with how a block turned out, being honest with yourself and starting over will give you even more beautiful blocks and quilts. It’s all a learning process. And believe me, even the best and experienced quilters have their seam ripper close by. It’s a sign of being courageous (another virtue of life), not being afraid to take that tool and rip apart what you’ve just put together.
One more virtue is forgiveness. Forgive yourself that the first try of that block didn’t work out the way you wanted to.
You see, quilting is all about the virtues of life. So why am I talking to you about virtues? Because that the name of the next block in the Sewcialites Quilt Along. I believe it fits perfectly in our sampler quilt, won’t you agree?
The Virtue block is designed by Bonnie Olaveson. Bonnie is around for a couple of decades now. After she started designing dolls, she discovered quilting and that is her passion in life these days. Together with her daughter, she designs fabric collections for Moda Fabrics. As she puts it herself, “It's been a fun, exciting, and unexpected adventure!”
Another fun experience is joining the YouTube Livestream from Fat Quarter Shop. Kimberly is quilting the block of the week every Friday morning at 9 am CDT, giving us tips and tricks along the way.
Once your block is done, share it on social media with the rest of us. You can post in the Sewcilaites Lounge on Facebook or put a photo of your block on your Instagram account. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #SewcialitesQAL because it will give you an entry in the drawing of some amazing prizes.
Good luck, fingers crossed, and happy quilting!

Can you believe the Sewcialites Quilt Along is almost over? I almost say, because even though the free blocks are all shared in the quilting community, we still have a quilt to make. In this blog post I am giving some tips on how to put together the final layout I created and what materials you will need for it. And last but not least, let's take a look at what the other quilters made of this beautiful sampler quilt!
