The Kaleidoscope Mini Quilt featuring the Even More Paper Collection
We have seen a great collection of mini quilts here on the Zen Chic blog. The Mini Freebie Quilt, the Gumdrop Mini Quilt, and a couple of weeks ago, we had the Compass Mini Quilt.
Maybe you still have a pile of leftover fabrics and you would love to use them. This week, I have another mini quilt for the somewhat experienced quilter this time, the Kaleidoscope Mini Quilt.
Fabrics for the Kaleidoscope Mini Quilt
It’s a modern and unique quilt, might I say, where we used a mix of Spotted blenders together with the low volume collection Even More Paper.
I only pulled 5 different blue shades and a lime green one from the Spotted collection for the beams of the kaleidoscope to make it pop. It’s the same color range as the lap size quilt of the Bauhaus pattern, a bonus in the Quilt Along. This gives the Kaleidoscope Mini Quilt a cool-toned feel and the lime green adds that spark bringing it all together.
Train your sewing skills on curved seams
Making this quilt, you can even train your sewing skills on curved seams. Have you shied away from curved seams so far? They are not so hard to master. We have a complete video tutorial on how to do that on our YouTube channel..
The Kaleidoscope Mini Quilt Templates
To make this quilt you can find the templates for the pieces to cut out and sew together the curved blocks in our free Resource Library. Bear in mind, we only offer just the bare templates, we don't have any sewing instructions for this mini quilt or fabric requirements.
Don’t have the password for the free resource library yet? Click here and you’ll get it straight into your inbox. It’s chock-full with all kinds of patterns and templates.
Make your own!
The Kaleidoscope Mini Quilt has 16 big blocks, measuring 6” square each, making the finished piece 25” square. It is a beautiful decorating piece for your wall or can serve as a lovely table topper.
I would say grab your scrap bag and find all those low volumes you have gathered over time. Or make use of a little Charm Pack of the More Background Even More Paper collection to have a nice assortment for your blocks.
Once you have your fabrics, take your rotary cutter, watch our video tutorial, and print out the free templates from the Resource Library. Have fun making this charming quilt.
This example of the Kaleidoscope Mini Quilt was sewn by Sandra Schnadhorst. You can find her on Instagram @nadelgoettin. Thank you so much Sandra, it turned out beautifully.
Zen Chic 2022 Bauhaus Quilt Along - week 3
Welcome back to our free Bauhaus Quilt Along. Have you joined the rest of our wonderful community of quilters yet? It’s great to be part of it and make this pretty quilt together.
If you haven’t joined us or you’re just reading about it now, jump in. There is still time, no worries. In each dedicated newsletter, we share a list with the earlier newsletters so you can always catch up with the rest of us.
On Instagram and Facebook
#bauhausqal. This is our special hashtag for sharing your progress on Instagram. We do not only love to see how you are doing with the QAL, but we also like to treat the quilters that join us. But more on that later. First, let’s look at a few of the photos shared this week.
On Facebook, we come together in the special pop-up group for the Bauhaus Quilt Along. We talk about all things to make the Bauhaus quilt a success. Knowing that you are not alone and chatting with your fellow participants is cozy and creates nice friendships along the way. People connect over this fellow project they are working on.
The treats for our Bauhaus quilters
Every week, we have a fabulous prize given to us by one of our sponsors. Last week, it was Martingale that generously gave away a $30 gift certificate to one of the Quilt Along participants.
This week, our sponsor is Quiltmania. They made a year subscription to Simply Moderne magazine available. Now, who doesn’t want to win that?!
All you need to do is join our QAL, post your progress on Instagram using the hashtag #bauhausqal so we can find your post, or share it in our Facebook group. That’s all you need to do to enter the drawing.
What we’ll cover this week
This week, in week 3 of the QAL, we are starting to sew some of the first blocks. In the special newsletter, you can find all kinds of tips and tricks on how to easily and precisely put together these blocks, some fantastic organizing for your blocks, and so much more.
For the more visual quilters, I have made a video tutorial where I show exactly how to do this. In fact, I share video tutorials throughout the whole Quilt Along. Sometimes it’s easier to show than to tell.
Join us!
If you’re not quilting with us yet, come and join us. We are having so much fun, especially now that gathering online is still the best option to quilt together. You’ll get access to me directly to ask questions in our Facebook group. You can win some amazing prizes during our 6 weeks quilting together. And not to mention, you’ll walk away with an amazing quilt to enjoy.
The Bauhaus Quilt Along is free. The only investment is the pattern. The rest you’ll get on the house!
And if you want to read more about it, we have a special page where you’ll find all the information regarding the schedule, materials, and much more. Click here to check it out.
Joining hexagons can be a daunting and time-consuming task. Knowing how to do this properly using your sewing machine is a great skill to have under your belt. Watch the video tutorial by All People Quilt featuring the Day in Paris fabric collection.
