Traditional or Modern quilter?
Looking back at your past quilts and quilting projects, would you say you’re a traditional quilter or a modern one? We probably all identify ourselves as one or the other. I consider myself a modern quilter.
Try something different
If you’re a traditional quilter and you would love to try something new, maybe you’ve been looking around for other fabrics. Or perhaps a smaller project to begin with. This could be a good way to try out something that you’re not used to creating.
But… if you’re a traditional quilter and you would love to try something different and go all in, I may have the perfect pattern for you.
Zen Chic’s modern Half the Way quilt pattern
Let me introduce you to my newest quilt pattern Half the Way.
Half the Way is a compromise between modern minimalism and traditional quilting. The blocks in this quilt are regular traditional blocks you can find in a quilter’s encyclopedia, although I don’t know the exact name of the block. (If you know this block’s name, please drop it in the comments. Thanks!)
Different from the traditional block
The completed setting of this modern block is a little bit different from a traditional one. You see, the blocks are only half done, the other half is left blank, it’s white space, which is not traditional.
Also, the blocks only display half, in the total layout. The other half of the quilt is blank. The quilt is almost a huge half-square triangle. This blank half which is done with Moonbeam from the Spotted collection, allows for beautiful quilting to show.
Recognition of traditional quilting
The Half the Way quilt pattern is an acknowledgment of the art of traditional quilting. As I said before, I call myself a modern quilter, however, I appreciate the history and development of quilting. And I also sympathize with the fact that a lot of my friends and followers come from a background where traditional piecing is more familiar. That’s why I created this quilt.
Let’s celebrate the Half the Way Quilt Pattern
To celebrate this new Zen Chic pattern, Half the Way will be on sale until Sunday, March 27, 2022.
You can buy this pattern with a 20% discount using the code CEHW.
Next week we will bring you the third pattern in the Celestial style.
Zen Chic 2022 Bauhaus Quilt Along - Wrap-up Week
We have finished our top in the Bauhaus Quilt Along and it’s time to put our quilts together. But before we’re going to look at what that all entails, I want to take the opportunity to thank you all for participating in our fantastic Quilt Along.
I hope you had as much fun as I have. And of course, I hope I’ve been able to teach you something new, even if it’s just a trick or two along the way.
Now let’s finish our quilt, shall we?
The final steps
Now that your top is done, it is time to make a sandwich and quilt the 3 layers. You can do this at home, however, you’ll get a beautiful result by taking it to your favorite longarm quilting service. For all my quilts, Rachel Hauser from Stitched in Color is my go-to-lady.
The last step in finishing your Bauhaus quilt is adding the binding. You can choose to do this by hand or use your sewing machine. Once that is finished, you can enjoy your masterpiece. Congratulations, you’ve done it!!
Our community on Facebook
During this Bauhaus QAL, we build again an amazing community of enthusiastic quilters on Facebook. The group has been a real resource for getting your questions answered and wins celebrated. I hope you will post a photo of your finished quilt and show us how it turned out. And of course, you can still ask questions and help each other out during this last week.
Time to share!
I know you have been posting on Instagram using the hashtag #bauhausqal. It was a delight going through your photos and seeing all those quilts come to life. Here are a couple of them to give you an idea but, by all means, hop on over to Instagram and check out the #bauhausqal hashtag for yourself.
Our winner of the week
Of course, we have a winner this week as well. As a Bauhaus QAL participant, you could win a Fat Eight Bundle of the new Frisky collection of Zen Chic. We thank Moda, that was giving away this awesome prize!
One last chance to win this week
For this final week, we have one last amazing prize. Fat Quarter Shop has made available a $100 gift certificate to one lucky winner. Whoop whoop!!
All participants of the QAL are eligible for the prize. All they need to do is post their progress on Instagram using the hashtag #bauhausqal or show their finished quilt in the Facebook group.
