Are you ready for your next challenge? Maybe you have a bare wall in your hallway or the living room could use a fantastic piece of art?
Wall decor ideas
As you may know, my background lies in interior design, and in combination with quilting, I love to come up with beautiful patterns that can be used as a quilt where you snuggle yourself under on the couch on a colder day. But my quilting patterns are definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a wall hanging.
Of course, when you are looking for something to decorate your walls with, there are multiple options, like creating a grid with your favorite photos or buying a wonderful painting.
Decorative quilts for your wall
But as quilters, we like to create our decorative pieces ourselves, right? And a quilted wall hanging gives you the challenge of being creative and the feeling of being proud of the quilt on your wall.
Jewels, perfect as wall decor
Jewels is, as the name indicates a very elegant and sophisticated quilt. The pattern is made as a lap size quilt, but its stunning look makes it perfect to hang on your wall in your living room or as a wall hanging in a slightly larger hallway.
The design is calm and with its colorway in neutral and desaturated use, it’s quite soothing bringing you in a relaxing mood.
A playful grid with shining Jewels
The blocks themselves are like jewels, like elongated rhombs (or diamonds) with facets of several fabrics from the Celestial collection. It looks like they’re shining, don’t you think? The jewels are organized as a grid which gives them a calm look. But because there are a couple of them randomly missing, it adds a certain playfulness.
With its white nearly solid background (I used my Spotted collection which has a little structure) it gives you a lot of opportunity to show wonderful and intricate quilting.
The Foundation Paper Piecing technique
The blocks themselves are sewn on paper using the Foundation Paper Piecing technique. That can be a bit challenging at first but don’t shy away from it. Once you’ve got that technique under your sewing belt, it is so much fun to explore the world of possibilities..
I’m going to help you out with the Foundation Paper Piecing technique. On my YouTube channel, I have a video explaining everything you need to know to tackle FPP.

Zen Chic 2022 Bauhaus Quilt Along - week 6
Time is flying by and we are coming to a close with our Bauhaus Quilt Along. This is week 6 of our QAL. Let’s see what we are going to do this week.
We’re making progress
In the last weeks, we have done a lot. By now, we have all of our blocks sewn. It is time to put them all together, sewing the blocks into rows and sewing the rows to form the top. You have become an expert in all kinds of seams! I bet your quilt top will look amazing. You should be really proud of yourself for making it so far.
Show us on Instagram
I love to look at all we’ve done together over the weeks. Sharing your progress on Instagram with the hashtag #bauhausqal made me very happy. I’ve looked forward to your photos every single week.
Our Facebook group
The community this QAL has brought forward on Facebook in our special pop-up group has been a highlight of the Bauhaus Quilt Along. I’m so glad for all the encouragement, help, and celebrations we’ve all shared there. It is truly amazing!
One lucky winner!
A sweet perk of quilting with us during these weeks is the fact that you have the chance to win some amazing prizes. Last week Aurifil was our sponsor. They generously contributed with a surprise thread bundle. By randomly drawing, we made one of our participants the lucky winner.
Moda Fabrics is our sponsor the coming week and is giving away a Fat Eight Bundle of the new Frisky collection of Zen Chic. To win this wonderful prize all you need to do is be a participant in the QAL and post your progress on Instagram with the hashtag #bauhausqal so we can put your name in the draw or show us your sewing in the Facebook group.
