One of the joys of participating in a Quilt Along is inspiring other quilters and being inspired by them as well. Especially QALs like the Sewcialites Quilt Along where a bunch of designers join forces and give us their best blocks... for free, I might add.
Also, we get to know the specialty of each designer. This week’s block is a typical one for Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet. She is the designer of this lovely block and called it Inspire. My guess is that she wants to inspire us to look at a block in a different way.
In Lori’s work, we see a lot of tangible figures. Think about cakes, fruit, and flowers. And yes, she even has a pattern with bras! The block she has for us this week is a sewing machine. How amazing is it, to make a sewing machine out of squares and half-square triangles?
With this sewing machine block, Lori inspires you to think outside of the box. I’m curious how your block turns out. Show us in the Sewcialites Lounge on Facebook, where your fellow quilting friends are chatting about all that has to do with the Sewcialites QAL.
And have you seen all those lovely blocks on Instagram? Searching for the hashtag #sewcialitesqal gives you an abundance of blocks, real eye-candy! It is unbelievable that there are so many different outcomes from just one design.
And if you put your block up on Instagram, you have the chance to win a great prize. Companies like Moda, Creative Grids, and Martingale take turns to give away a fantastic item from their collection each month. So don’t forget to add that hashtag to your post.
Have you joined the YouTube channel of Fat Quarter Shop before? Every Friday at 9 am CDT, Kimberly quilts the block of the week with us. This is a great time to ask questions, learn from the pros, and meet other quilters who make the same sampler quilt you are making.
Just a few more weeks in this QAL before all blocks are made and we can put it together. But not to worry. If you are looking for another project, we have the Spring in Paris Quilt Along going. We have just begun, so there is still time to jump in and catch up with the rest of the quilters.
Go check out the special QAL page here, read all about it, and sign up. We would love to have you join us!
Don't miss the other designers involved in this project:
Can you believe the Sewcialites Quilt Along is almost over? I almost say, because even though the free blocks are all shared in the quilting community, we still have a quilt to make. In this blog post I am giving some tips on how to put together the final layout I created and what materials you will need for it. And last but not least, let's take a look at what the other quilters made of this beautiful sampler quilt!
